Who doesn't love the Vitra elephant?
Charles and Ray Eames developed a toy elephant made of plywood in 1945, but it never went into series production. The design pachyderm only cleared this hurdle with ease when it was made of dyed-through plastic. As a tribute to the original model, Vitra has been producing the Eames Elephant in beautiful plywood again since 2017.
The traditional company has even recently switched to European woods: Instead of American walnut, the pachyderm is made from walnut wood from Europe and a new, light-colored version made from chestnut wood is being introduced. Both wood variants are now also treated with water-based varnishes.
The friendly looking elephant with its striking large ears is equally suitable as a toy and design object. A lifelong friendship for young and old.
