> Very quickly we realize: Stools are the new chairs
They are everywhere, these wonderfully compact seats that are so much more. They meet all our requirements for modern life, our everyday life and our living. They are mobile, versatile and space-saving.
The new stools can be repositioned again and again at home, act as casual seating for spontaneous guests, skillfully present the new flower bouquet or steal the show in the bedroom as an expressive side table for the new bed.
We are particularly taken with the new stools made of glazed ceramic with a retro vibe, a skillfully raw look and those made of dark wood.
Wherever we look, they are everywhere: the colorful, shimmering stools made of ceramic. Some are also enameled or otherwise glossy lacquered, but the vast majority are made of robust ceramic with colorful lacquer. We find the most beautiful ones at Pols Potten, Serax and Pulpo Design.
The shiny seats are an expression of a major macro-trend that is present at all the major interior labels at the trade fair, in the showrooms and also throughout the city of Paris: the 70s.
We feel a little transported back to wild times gone by, with deep colors, velvet, shimmering surfaces, bold retro prints and lots of organic curves.
Maison Sarah Lavoine knows how to translate the 70s and late 60s into the here and now in a particularly impressive way. She plays with bordeaux, orange, dark brown, emerald green and mustard yellow and lets the colors radiate even deeper among each other. The large-format stools in her new collection exude a royal attitude that is equally at home with boudoir-style coquetry.
The stools from Magic Circus Editions, covered with textiles in retro print, also catch the eye. Thanks to their purist design with a chrome or powder-coated base, they have mastered the modern twist to perfection. The Dutch label Pols Potten, on the other hand, is a master of staging and demonstrates its expertise in this product category with a whole wall of stools with a retro look. And at Pulpo Design our mouths are open at the fantastic stools.
We love the velvet, shimmering surfaces and the new, deep colors that bring a cozy atmosphere and sophisticated hotel lobby charm into our homes.
In this rather loud, fast and very colorful world, we often look for simplicity and authenticity. This trend is served by the Raw Beauties that we tracked down at the trade fair. Matt, raw, almost unprocessed-looking surfaces and archaic shapes made of concrete, fiber mixtures or stone bring a stoic calm to our homes. And create exciting breaks! The Belgian label Ethnicraft with its Elements line is the master of this staging, but we have also been seeing this trend at Ferm Living for a few furnishing seasons now.
From archaic beauty to another trend from nature: wooden stools. According to the exhibitors, seating made of dark teak in particular looks set to move into our homes in the near future. Another master here: Ethnicraft from Antwerp. The dark stained or lacquered wood has a grounding effect and radiates a great deal of calm. A certain masculinity or a tendency towards classicism only resonates when the dark wood takes over the main part of an interior, otherwise it simply looks new and wonderfully purist.
Conclusion: the new stools are so beautiful that they almost replace the chairs. We have seen stools replacing dining chairs at Maison Sarah Lavoine, for example. Unfortunately, we don't know whether the guests will stay that long with this active seating.
At Ethnicraft, on the other hand, the office chair in the home office is replaced by a curved wooden stool or a cork-shaped concrete stool - and at Ferm Living, the children sit flexibly on their backless but beautifully curved stool.
