My tips for a cozy home

With winter just around the corner, it's the perfect time to transform your home into a cozy oasis. For me as an interior designer, the right mix of comfort and style plays a key role. Today, I'd like to share my three best tips with you on how to make your home winter-proof and cozy.

The sofa: your winter retreat

In winter, the sofa becomes the centerpiece of the living room - a place where you want to relax and unwind. It is important that the sofa is not only visually appealing, but also offers enough space to get really comfortable. I recommend spacious sofas with soft materials such as velvet or bouclé, which radiate warmth and comfort. Colors in warm earth tones or soft gray and beige tones convey calm and invite you to linger. Combine it with cushions and blankets in different textures to create even more coziness.

Color as an accent: Courage to use warm, intense tones

While soft earth tones and neutral colors often form the basis for a cozy living room, a strong color such as dark red or Bordeaux can also create an exciting yet warm accent. Especially in winter, such intense tones create a particularly cozy atmosphere without overwhelming the room. A sofa in a rich shade of red can be a stylish eye-catcher and add depth and character to the room. Combined with cushions and blankets in calmer colors such as beige or grey, a harmonious balance is created that not only looks cosy, but also adds a modern, elegant accent. If you're brave and want to freshen up your rooms a little, this is a wonderful way to make winter cozy and stylish at the same time.

Layering with textiles - warmth and structure for the cold season

In autumn and winter, layering transforms our living spaces into cozy retreats. Layering blankets, cushions and rugs not only brings a pleasant warmth, but also depth and texture to the room. Go for materials such as wool, velvet or cotton, which are not only soft but also visually appealing. A thick wool rug under the coffee table or a cotton bedspread on the bed can make a noticeable difference to the feel of the room. The combination of different fabrics creates an inviting and homely atmosphere - perfect for cold days.

Carpets: The central point for comfort

Rugs are an important part of layering and add a particularly cozy touch to any room in winter. A deep-pile rug or one made from natural materials such as wool not only provides visual warmth, but also a pleasant feeling underfoot. Placed under the sofa, the rug creates a visual frame and makes the room even cozier. Combined with textured cushions and blankets, it creates a harmonious variety of textures that makes the room feel lively and inviting. Subtle carpet colors round off the overall picture, while bolder patterns or color accents such as a deep red give the room additional character and warmth.

The result is a harmonious, warm feeling that is ideal for the colder months.

Lighting - The power of the right light in winter

As the days get shorter, lighting plays a crucial role in creating a cozy atmosphere. Go for warm, soft light that transforms your home into an inviting oasis. Use multiple light sources such as floor lamps, table lamps and candles to create different moods. Dimmable lamps are ideal for adjusting the light according to the time of day and mood. Also make sure to choose bulbs with a warm hue to create a cozy, calming ambience - just the thing for long winter evenings!
